From researching possible causes of a nagging cough to refilling prescription medications, more consumers than ever before are using their mobile devices to access medical information and take action. A new Cybercitizen Health 2011 study by Manhattan Research reported earlier this week that about 26% of U.S. adults used their mobile phones to access health information during the past year, an increase of more than 50% over 2010.

Searching for and gathering health information remains the most popular mobile health activity, according to the study. Chris Gullo, a writer for MobiHealthNews who reported on the study, also touts the free consumer mobile healthcare app iTriage as one of the few health apps that boasts millions of users.
