New Year’s Eve logistics are often complicated. Figuring out what party to go to and which people to see is just the beginning; how you will get to where you need to go and back safely is an entirely different matter.
Here’s a list of different ways to make it back to your bed without a scratch:
- Public Transit: Not only is public transit free in most cities on New Year’s Eve, but you’ll probably get a ride more quickly than waiting for a cab.
- Taxis: On New Year’s Eve a taxi, not a dog, is a man’s best friend. While the wait may be long, and the fare more than you’d like to pay, the time and money you spend will be less than the time and money you’ll need if you drive drunk. 1-800-Taxi-Cab will refer you to taxi companies near you.
- Designated Drivers: are a girl’s (and a boy’s!) best friend. Hitching a ride with someone who isn’t drinking is a surefire way to get home safely.
- Walk: While walking drunk is definitely better than driving drunk, it isn’t always ideal. If you walk home, make sure you’re not alone, and be careful of crossing streets. Also, if you’re wearing heels, make sure to bring some flats in your purse. 16 blocks in stilettos is not fun.
- Don’t Go Home: If all else fails, see if you can crash on a friend’s couch.
